KABUL, Afghanistan — A man wrapped in explosives approached a police car passing through a crowded marketplace in the southern province of Helmand on Monday and detonated himself, killing at least seven people and wounding at least 27, the local authorities said.
The attack, coming on the busiest shopping day of the week in the town of Musa Qala, seemed intended to inflict the highest number of casualties possible. Five of the dead were civilians and two were police officers, and all but five of the wounded were civilians, said Asadullah Sherzad, the police chief of Helmand Province. (more…)
