Weekend article documents the killing and wounding of civilians after African Union peacekeeping forces and insurgents clash in residential districts.  While this report claims that 6 civilians were killed and 10 were injured, subsequent posting titled “Four civilians killed in Mogadishu clashes” report slightly different numbers.  Final counts on civilian casualties not yet published.

A study published by the Open Society Foundations shows that Afghans blame US for civilian casualties.  The report also calls for the Afghan government to set up an independent organization to maintain a national registry of civilian victims that would list cause of death and who is responsible and urges the international community to extend recent troop directives to reduce the potential for civilian casualties.

The coalition military forces’ bombing raid on a wedding ceremony in the Haska Mina area of Shinwar in Nangarhar once again shocked compatriots yesterday. Dozens of civilians, including women and children, were killed in the bombing raid. There were neither any armed Taleban nor any Al-Qa’idah fighters [among them]. But, the bride was being taken from one village to another. The coalition forces unexpectedly dropped bombs on them. Dozens of innocent civilians, including women and children, were killed and many others were wounded in the attack. (more…)
