Dec 24 (Reuters) – Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 0730 GMT on Friday.

FARYAB – Two civilians were killed and two wounded during an operation by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in northwest Faryab province on Thursday, the coalition said. ISAF said it was investigating the incident. The civilians were killed and wounded when their vehicle failed to stop at a checkpoint in Maimanah district despite verbal commands and warning shots, ISAF said. The incident happened during an operation targeting a senior Taliban leader, it said.

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The only ambulance service in war-torn Mogadishu said Wednesday that more than 4,200 bystanders have died in warfare the last two years, and a U.S. group that works to prevent civilian deaths said Somalia is more dangerous for civilians than Afghanistan or Iraq.

Iraq’s Christian community was in shock Monday after Islamist militants in suicide vests besieged a church during Sunday Mass and then fought Iraqi commandos in a melee that left at least 58 people dead.
