(Reuters) – Foreign troops killed two Afghan civilians in restive southern Kandahar city on Thursday, a police detective said, days after the publication of gruesome photos of the body of an unarmed teenager murdered by U.S. soldiers nearby.

NATO soldiers opened fire after a car with brake failure sped toward a checkpoint set up by foreign and Afghan troops, who thought the vehicle was part of a suicide attack, said Fazel Ahmad Sherzad, a senior detective in Kandahar city. (more…)

Aug 25 (Reuters) – Following are security developments in Iraq at 1000 GMT on Tuesday. * denotes a new or updated item.

*BAGHDAD – A roadside bomb wounded four policemen in central Baghdad, police said.

* MOSUL – Gunman shot dead a patient in a hospital in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. The gunman and a member of the hospital protection force were both wounded in the attack.

SAMARRA – A roadside bomb killed one policeman and wounded another when it struck a police patrol in central Samarra, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD – A bomb attached to a car wounded a municipal official, along with three of his bodyguards, in Baghdad’s central Karrada district, police said. A passerby was also wounded in the attack.

BAGHDAD – A roadside bomb wounded four civilians in Baghdad’s southeastern district of al-Ameen, police said.

MOSUL – Gunmen entered a mosque in Mosul, north of Baghdad, on Monday, wounding a Muslim cleric and a child playing nearby, police said.

BAGHDAD – Gunmen burst into the home of a university professor in Abu Ghraib, in Baghdad’s western outskirts, late on Monday, killing the man, police said.

TAJI, Iraq — At least eight people were killed, including two policemen, in three separate attacks on Monday in northern and central Iraq, police said.

In the deadliest attack, five people were killed when a car bomb blew up near a convoy of US troops and Iraqi police near the town of Taji, just north of the capital Baghdad, local police Lieutenant Sarmed Sami told AFP.

The bomb narrowly missed the joint patrol on a highway near Taji, tearing through a line of gridlocked cars, Sami said. He said 38 people were wounded in the attack. (more…)

One Palestinian was killed and two were injured in incidents on the Israel-Gaza border on Sunday, Israeli officials and Palestinian medics have said.

The man died in hospital in Israel after he was shot while approaching the border fence. The Israeli military said he did not heed warning shots.

Separately, two Palestinians were hurt by Israeli tank fire, Gaza medics said. (more…)
