Libyan television broadcast footage of firefighters tackling blazes caused by Nato air strikes in Tripoli and Al Jfara city on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Commander of Nato operations in Libya said troops loyal to leader Muammar Gaddafi were using civilians as human shields to protect themselves during raids.
At a news conference in Naples, Canadian Lieutenant General Charles Bouchard, denied targeting civilians or that the alliance was attempting to kill Col Gaddafi himself.
“I continue to stay focused not on individuals, this is not about individuals, this is not about regime change, this is about bringing an end to violence against the population by engaging troops that are directly bringing harm to the population,” Lt Gen Bouchard said.
More than a month of Western air strikes have so far have failed to dislodge Col Gaddafi or bring significant gains for anti-government rebels who hold much of east Libya, raising fears of a lingering stalemate.
