KABUL, Afghanistan

An International Security Assistance Force patrol came under fire by insurgents yesterday while patrolling in Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

While gaining positive identification of the insurgent firing position, the ISAF patrol noticed two Afghan civilians lying beneath a motorbike. Before returning fire, the ISAF patrol moved to assist the civilians while insurgents again opened fire from three different positions.

The NATO-led force in Afghanistan said it was investigating whether its troops had inadvertently killed three Afghan civilians on Wednesday while its forces fought insurgents in the south of the country.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Oct 4 (Reuters)

Three Afghan civilians were killed along with 14 insurgents in a NATO air strike targeting a Taliban commander and seven more people also died in separate blasts, Afghan authorities said on Monday.
