(Reuters) – A team of United Nations human rights investigators will travel to Yemen next week to assess the situation after months of unrest, a U.N. spokeswoman said on Friday.
“The U.N. human rights office is due to deploy a three-member delegation to Yemen on Monday for a 10-day mission to assess the human rights situation in the country in light of recent events,” spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told a news briefing.

ADEN – More than 15,000 people fleeing fighting between the army and Islamist gunmen in Yemen’s Abyan province have turned schools in Yemen’s southern port city into makeshift refugee camps.
Refugees complained that authorities have not provided them with enough medicine, clothing and blankets.
They sleep 20 and 30 to a classroom, eat what a local charity brings to the school — beans with bread, rice with fish or meat — and await clothes to replace what they left behind.

The Yemeni regime used heavy weapon as it bombarded houses in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, during clashes with tribesmen at al-Hasaba of Sana’a city. The clashes with the leader of Hashid tribe, Sadiq Al-Ahmar lasted for two weeks, Yemeni advocates and activists said.
The Yemeni security forces prevented Ambulances from reaching casualties and take them into hospitals, local sources said.

Two refugees are among those killed in recent clashes in Yemen that have displaced thousands of Yemenis and refugees alike. The UN refugee agency has expressed alarm at the deteriorating situation, which is affecting its ability to help these vulnerable groups.
“In Al-Hasaba, north of [Yemen’s capital] Sana’a city, two Somali refugees were killed in the fighting last week,” said UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards at a news briefing in Geneva on Friday. “They were a 14-year-old boy and a young woman who had fled the violence in Somalia to seek refuge in Yemen.”

At least 30 people have been killed in heavy clashes in the southern Yemeni city of Zinjibar, officials have said.
The violence, which officials blame on al-Qaeda militants, comes days after President Ali Abdullah Saleh left the country after being injured in an attack on his compound.
Government officials routinely blame violence in the country on al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
There were also reports of violence in Yemen’s second largest city, Taiz. According to the AFP news agency, it is now controlled by government opponents.
