Baha Mousa, an innocent civilian, welcomed the British forces who occupied his hometown of Basra in April 2003, because their arrival signalled the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.
But less than half a year later the 26 year-old father-of-two had suffered a brutal, humiliating death at the hands of a small number of British soldiers he saw as liberators.

As Yemen’s political crisis entered its seventh month, the situation further deteriorated Tuesday as Yemen’s ruling party postponed a vote to approve “a modified Gulf-brokered power transition plan which aims to pull…[Yemen]…out of its bloody political deadlock.”

BEIRUT (AP) — A barrage of gunfire by security forces that left residents cowering in their homes killed at least nine people and wounded several others Wednesday in Homs, a hotbed of opposition to President Bashar Assad’s autocratic regime, activists and residents said. Two others were shot dead during raids in Sarameen, in northern Syria.
In a step the opposition says shows the regime is intractable, a planned visit by the Arab League secretary general Wednesday to push Assad to make major concessions to defuse the 6-month-old crisis was called off at the last minute at the government’s request.

Air-force planes reportedly carried out two strikes over Abyan province, one of which mistakenly hit the Hamza mosque, its nearby hospital, and a police station in the town of Jaar on Monday, AP reported.
