IRAQ: Civilian killed in Iraq’s Diyala violence

BAQUBA, Iraq, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) — An Iraqi civilian was killed and two others were wounded in gunfire attack and roadside bomb explosion in Iraq’s volatile province of Diyala northeast of Baghdad on Friday, a provincial police source said.
The civilian, a barber, was killed and another was injured when unknown gunmen showered them with bullets in the shop at the main marketplace in the town of al-Sa’adiya, 60 km north of the provincial capital of Baquba, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Iraqi security forces immediately cordoned off the scene and detained two suspects for interrogation, the source said.
In separate incident, one more civilian was wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in the Jurf al-Milih area, just north of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the source said, adding that five suspects were arrested by Iraqi security forces.
Diyala province, which stretches from the eastern edges of the capital to the Iranian border east of the country, has long been a stronghold for al-Qaida militants and other insurgent groups since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 despite repeated U.S. and Iraqi military operations against them.
Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq as part of recent deterioration in security which shaped a setback to the efforts of the Iraqi government to restore normalcy in the country after more than four months of U.S. troops pullout of cities and towns.
