CIVIC is a Washington-based organization founded by the late Marla Ruzicka, a passionate humanitarian killed by a suicide bomb in Baghdad while advocating for war victims in Iraq.

CIVIC believes that civilians injured and the families of those killed should be recognized and aided by the warring parties involved, and is working toward smart, compassionate policies for civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict.

MOSUL, Iraq (AFP) — An Iraqi policeman was killed and 15 others, including three police, were wounded in four separate grenade attacks in the same Mosul street on Sunday, a security official told AFP.

An officer died at around 11 am (0800 GMT) when his patrol car was targeted on Al-Corniche street in the restive northern city, where attacks on security forces remain common, the official said.

Two police were hurt in a similar attack 90 minutes later and two further grenade incidents wounded a third officer and a total of 12 civilians.

Another 14 people were injured when three bombs exploded within minutes of each other in the volatile city of Baquba north-east of Baghdad, a city security official said.

The first blast targeted a CD shop, the second an army patrol and the third exploded as police arrived on the scene, the official said. Five suspects are being questioned.
