    CIVIC is a Washington-based organization founded by the late Marla Ruzicka, a passionate humanitarian killed by a suicide bomb in Baghdad while advocating for war victims in Iraq.

    CIVIC believes that civilians injured and the families of those killed should be recognized and aided by the warring parties involved, and is working toward smart, compassionate policies for civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict.

AFGHANISTAN:Britain pays out £700,000 in compensation to civilian casualties in Afghanistan

Details obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that between April 2006 to October 2008, the British government made 858 ex-gratia payment to Afghan civilians who either had family members killed or injured in fighting between the Taliban and British troops or whose property had been damaged.

A total of £90,000 has been paid to Afghans who have been injured or the families of those killed in fighting in Helmand. Read the rest of this entry »

AFGHANISTAN: Roadside bomb kills 2 civilians in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A bomb exploded next to a vegetable market in eastern Afghanistan early Saturday, killing two people, officials said.

At least 17 others were wounded — 16 civilians and a private security worker — said Taher Khan Sabari, deputy governor of Khost province. The dead included a teenage boy, he said. Read the rest of this entry »

Afghan official: suicide bomb attack kills 3
