PAKISTAN: Pakistanis flee into Afghanistan

The UN’s refugee agency says 20,000 people have fled Pakistan’s tribal area of Bajaur for Afghanistan amid fighting between troops and militants.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees says almost 4,000 families have crossed into Afghanistan’s Kunar province.

Some 300,000 others have been displaced by fighting, although Pakistan says many have found shelter in the region.

MOGADISHU (AFP) — Somali Islamist insurgents attacked African Union peacekeepers and government forces in the capital Mogadishu, and at least four people were killed in the clashes, witnesses said Monday.

Two civilians and a soldier died in an attack overnight near the presidential palace, Villa Baidoa, they said.

LEBANON: Six killed in Lebanon army bus blast

TRIPOLI, Lebanon (AFP) — At least six people were killed on Monday in a blast targeting a military bus on the outskirts of the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli, a security official told AFP.

“We have at least six people killed, three of them soldiers,” the official said. “We have about 30 other people injured.”
