A bomb blast in Lebanon’s Ain el-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp in the southern port city of Sidon has left one dead and 4 others wounded.
“One person was killed and four others were wounded,” said Munir Maqdah, the camp’s Fatah commander who heads a multi-factional security committee.
The official said the bomb exploded near the camp’s Noor mosque, which houses an office belonging to a number of groups which work with the Fatah faction of Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmud Abbas in providing security in the camp.
The Palestinian refugee camps are outside the control of Lebanese authorities and Palestinian factions are in charge of security there.
The dead man was identified as Ahmed Mostafa Qassem, 17 who was inside the mosque’s prayer room when the bomb exploded.
Ain el-Helweh, with more than 45,000 residents, is the most populous of Lebanon’s dozen Palestinian refugee camps .
Last week, three people were killed in clashes in the camp between Fatah and Jund al-Sham.
