    CIVIC is a Washington-based organization founded by the late Marla Ruzicka, a passionate humanitarian killed by a suicide bomb in Baghdad while advocating for war victims in Iraq.

    CIVIC believes that civilians injured and the families of those killed should be recognized and aided by the warring parties involved, and is working toward smart, compassionate policies for civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict.

PAKISTAN:US bomb ‘kills five in Pakistan’

Officials said a missile was launched by a suspected US aircraft in the North Waziristan tribal area.

Pakistan’s army says it is investigating the incident.

PHILIPPINES: Half a million displaced in fighting

MANILA, 5 September 2008 – Up to 500,000 people are enduring poor health services and unsanitary conditions after fleeing the fighting between the government and Muslim rebels in the south.

Moreover, analysts fear that President Gloria Arroyo’s 3 September decision to dissolve a negotiating panel seeking a political solution to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s (MILF) 30-year rebellion will trigger increased violence across the southern island of Mindanao.
