Satellite images have confirmed that ethnic Georgian villages inside South Ossetia have been deliberately burned, US-based Human Rights Watch says.
It said analysis by UN experts showed the damage “was caused by intentional burning and not armed combat”.
HRW researchers had “personally witnessed Ossetian militias looting and burning down ethnic Georgian villages”.

NEW DELHI — Violence in Indian-controlled Kashmir flared anew on Wednesday as gunmen attacked an Indian Army post near the city of Jammu and then barricaded themselves in a private home, waging a daylong battle and holding a family hostage.

There is convincing evidence that 60 children and 30 adults were killed in a US air strike in western Afghanistan last Friday, the United Nations says.
The US originally said its planes had killed 30 militants in the attack in the province of Herat.
President Karzai sacked two senior Afghan army officers over the incident. The US says Afghan forces led the operation in the district of Shindand. Read the rest of this entry »
