    CIVIC is a Washington-based organization founded by the late Marla Ruzicka, a passionate humanitarian killed by a suicide bomb in Baghdad while advocating for war victims in Iraq.

    CIVIC believes that civilians injured and the families of those killed should be recognized and aided by the warring parties involved, and is working toward smart, compassionate policies for civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict.

AFGHANISTAN: NATO forces kill 4 civilians in shooting at checkpoint in southern Afghanistan

NATO forces killed four civilians and wounded three others when they fired at a vehicle that did not stop at a checkpoint in Afghanistan’s volatile south, the alliance said.

Civilian casualties are a sore point between Afghanistan’s government and international forces operating here. President Hamid Karzai has implored NATO and U.S.-led coalition troops to avoid killing civilians because it undermines support for his already weak central government. Read the rest of this entry »
