Following the 9/11 terrorist attack, the USA, in cooperation with its allies, started fighting in Afghanistan to eliminate terrorists. Afterwards, the fighting was spread to Iraq. Before the attack, terror was conducted in various ways. However, the attack on the US World Trade Centre changed terror into a school. Text of editorial in Pashto entitled “Again they bombed innocent people” published by state-owned Afghan newspaper Hewad on 7 July
The coalition military forces’ bombing raid on a wedding ceremony in the Haska Mina area of Shinwar in Nangarhar once again shocked compatriots yesterday. Dozens of civilians, including women and children, were killed in the bombing raid. There were neither any armed Taleban nor any Al-Qa’idah fighters [among them]. But, the bride was being taken from one village to another. The coalition forces unexpectedly dropped bombs on them. More than 250 Afghan civilians have been killed or injured in five days of rebel attacks and military action, the Red Cross said Wednesday, calling all sides in the growing conflict to take more care.
The latest incidents include separate military air strikes in two eastern provinces on July 4 and July 6 and a suicide car bomb attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul on Monday that killed 41 people.
President Hamid Karzai, the Afghan parliament and the UN representative Kai Eide have all expressed concern about the civilian tolls. Read the rest of this entry »
