    CIVIC believes that civilians injured and the families of those killed should be recognized and aided by the warring parties involved, and is working toward smart, compassionate policies for civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict.

AFGHANISTAN: Gory day in Afghanistan offers snapshot of record-setting violence

It was a record-setting day for violence in Afghanistan, offering a grim snapshot of a steady spike in suicide killings, roadside bombings, and civilian and military casualties.

A Canadian military medic renowned for his perpetually sunny disposition was pronounced dead from a roadside bomb.

Afghanistan’s capital saw its deadliest attack since the fall of the Taliban, with 40 people killed, scores more injured, and terror-stricken civilians fleeing from a suicide blast site in Kabul. Read the rest of this entry »

Text of editorial in Pashto entitled “Regarding arbitrary bombing raid in Nurestan, one cannot fight wildness with wildness” published by pro-government Afghan newspaper Weesa on 6 July

The arbitrary bombing raid in Nurestan the other day which killed more than 20 of our innocent compatriots cannot be considered anything other than a crime. It is deplorable that foreign troops based in Afghanistan have committed such a crime. Unfortunately, such arbitrary bombing raids, brutal killings and unprecedented wildness have been repeated so many times during the past nearly seven years that now it is difficult to believe that these foreign forces have come to our country for assistance and restoration of security.
