Palestinians celebrate Israeli pullout from northern Gaza

GAZA: Thousands of Palestinians came out to support Hamas in what it called a victory rally here on Monday, hours after Israeli ground forces pulled out of northern Gaza, winding up a vigorous two-day operation against rocket-launching squads.
Mirroring the tactics of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Mahmoud Zahar, an influential Hamas leader in Gaza, came out of hiding to attend the rally and, surrounded by masked gunmen, promised that his organization would rebuild any house that had been damaged in Israeli strikes. U.S. fires missiles at Somalia terror target

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The U.S. military struck “a target against a known al Qaeda terrorist” in southern Somalia early Monday, the Pentagon said.
Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman, would not release any other details on the strike, which occurred when it was still late Sunday in Washington.
A U.S. military official told CNN’s Barbara Starr that the strike near the town of Dhoobley, close to the Somali-Kenyan border, involved precision missiles. Read the rest of this entry »
